A bit about Rockstart

Rockstart, one of Europe's first multi-vertical startup accelerators, was founded in Amsterdam in 2011 with a goal to provide startups with access to capital, market, community, and expertise. Since then Rockstart has become the specialist in building entire ecosystems around specific domains—such as Digital Health, Artificial Intelligence and Smart Energy. Rockstart is actively building up entrepreneurial infrastructures around the world with its acceleration verticals, as well as early-stage startup programs, Rockstart Impact and Rockstart Launchtrack. Since the inception, Rockstart has invested in 128 startups across 13 programs and supported them in their journey to raise more than €54 million and hire more than 600 people. Rockstart is an international team of 40+ professionals dedicated to support and empower startups to become scalable and change their world for the better.


The role

Within this position, your main purpose will be to ensure Rockstart reaches its commercial goals. Throughout the different services that Rockstart offers, we have set ambitious targets that vary from creating strategic and profitable partnerships with corporates for our Accelerator programs, helping corporates in our key verticals with their innovation challenges to building lasting and mutually beneficial relationships with licensees and partners.


As the team lead for our commercial team, you will set goals and coach your team members to realise these goals while also taking final ownership of the end result, joining in on meetings with board-level decision makers whenever necessary to make sure deals with important partners are closed. Within the management team you are responsible for setting the commercial strategy as well as flagging commercial opportunities and challenges for Rockstart as a whole. You work closely with a small team of professionals to clients ranging from large multinationals to hospitals to NGO’s.


Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Develop and be end responsible for key commercial metrics and milestones for entire Rockstart Group;
  • Be the main driver in setting the focus and speed when it comes to our commercial offering towards corporate partners and customers;
  • Be the door-opener for new potential program partners and potential clients at c-level / board level;
  • Create and implement a professional data-driven sales process and ensure it’s being used by all sales related employees in the Rockstart Group;
  • As part of the management team, play a role in developing strategic propositions that demonstrate the unique added value of our services and startup knowledge to help solve large corporations’ innovation problems;
  • Develop ‘on the job’ and formal training for our sales team so that capabilities, knowledge and skills are constantly upgraded -  continuously ensuring best-in-class results;
  • Play a leading role in winning key sales accounts;
  • Create a professional process and documentation base for doing RFP’s;
  • Coach domain owners to further develop our commercial propositions surrounding our Smart Energy, Healthcare and Artificial Intelligence programs and how to validate those commercially with potential clients;
  • Guide and coach Rockstart Spaces team on sales processes and attracting new tenants;

Requirements

What makes you the perfect candidate?

Through your years of sales experience, you have perfected the art of understanding quickly what the other wants and mapping out the sales process in order to close the deal in the best possible way. Because you are very commercially savvy and conceptually strong, you cut through the bullshit quickly, know how to ask the right questions and keep your eye on the prize. While you have deep strategic insights into sales processes, you prefer to also stay hands on as you are passionate about achieving tangible results. You can be ruthlessly persistent in obtaining what you have to but are also an empathetic coach to your team members. You are quick to understand new markets and territories and with your positive mindset you instantly spot opportunities. With multiple deliverables across our different verticals, you always know how to master your to-do list and priorities. Lastly, you are sharp and know what is fluff and call it straight out.


Must have requirements:

  • 5-10 years of sales experience in a large tech company, startup or (innovation) consultancy firm;
  • At least 2 years of managerial experience in coaching mid-level professionals in overachieving their targets;
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, and negotiation skills;
  • Excellent Dutch skills, written and spoken;
  • Proficient in English, written and spoken;
  • Resilient, determined, passionate and relentless - never gives up. In short, a honey-badger type of personality (See video here).

Bonus points:

  • Experience as a (strategy) consultant;
  • Managing complex sales processes with multiple stakeholders in a corporate environment.

Start: Asap.
Availability: 40 hours per week.

Duration: This is a long-term position. We’ll start with a temporary contract.

Remuneration: Based on experience and knowledge.
