Communications & Social Media Internship

Job description

A bit about Rockstart

Rockstart, one of Europe's first multi-vertical startup accelerators, was founded in Amsterdam in 2011 with a goal to provide startups with access to the market, capital, knowledge, and community. Since then Rockstart has become the specialist in building entire ecosystems around specific domains—such as Digital Health and Smart Energy. Rockstart is actively building up entrepreneurial infrastructures around the world with its acceleration verticals, as well as early-stage startup programs, Rockstart Impact and Rockstart Launchtrack. Since the inception, Rockstart has invested in 128 startups across 13 programs and supported them in their journey to raise more than €53 million and hire more than 600 people. Rockstart is an international team of 35+ professionals dedicated to support and empower startups to become scalable and change their world for the better.

The role

Help us tell the story of Rockstart and the passionate and talented entrepreneurs we help to grow their startups faster.

We are looking for an intern that is excited about social media and digital communication in general.  Our communications team at Rockstart is small, which means you’ll get a chance to work on a lot of different skills: writing blog content, joining and reporting startup events and workshops, creating newsletters and social media content, working on communication strategy, managing web analytics, working closely with the communications manager and creating a clear and efficient plan of action for yourself.

Although part of your week will be consistent and allow you to really dive into and improve on specific aspects of digital communication, the rest is usually very diverse and will enable you to try out a lot of different communications channels and methods. Being a Communications intern at Rockstart requires flexibility and a diverse set of skills from your side, but comes with a lot of freedom and great learning opportunities.

Fun. Fulfilling. Challenging. Those are three words that come to mind when describing my time at Rockstart.  I got the opportunity to pitch my ideas and work on my own projects  in the heart of the Amsterdam startup ecosystem, alongside passionate entrepreneurs and innovators - what could be better? Oh yeah, the free food and parties!"

Asad Noorani about his Communications & Social Media internship in 2016

Start: February 2018

Availability: 40 hours per week

Duration: 5-6 months

Remuneration: €300 monthly + travel expenses + free daily lunch

Location: Amsterdam

The most important thing we look for in a Communications intern is a great spirit. You need to have a real desire to learn, grow as a communicator and come along on this great adventure with us. Since we communicate in English and writing is obviously important in this job, we are looking for someone that has creative copywriting skills in English and has preferably managed a blog, Twitter account or Facebook Page before.

As we are still looking for the best ways to tell the story of Rockstart and our startups, we’re also looking for someone who’s creative, loves startups and ideally has some experience with Photoshop, spreadsheets and presentation software. If you’ve touched a camera in the past, that’s also worth a few extra points. If you’re ambitious, capable of managing your own time and comfortable working in a hectic startup environment alongside passionate entrepreneurs, this could be the internship for you. When you apply, ask yourself: What do I want to learn and improve on?

As an intern at Rockstart, we expect flexibility and a diverse set of skills from your side. You would describe yourself as eager, energized, analytical, structured, an all-rounder and a great communicator.

Next to this we require:

  • Being registered as a student during the course of the internship;
  • A special interest and/or experience in social media;
  • Fluency in English;
  • A ton of enthusiasm for Rockstart’s mission in supporting the best startups.
  • Bonus points: we would love our interns to bring something extra to the table, so we encourage you to mention  in your motivation any special knowledge or experience that in your opinion is very valuable for Rockstart.

Extra Benefits

Big entrepreneurial network

At Rockstart you will not only be surrounded by our team, but also over 150 other driven and talented startup entrepreneurs at Rockstart Spaces (there are some 50 startups situated here). You’ll have a chance to meet a mix of founders, designers, developers, marketing people and experienced Rockstart mentors. This makes a great opportunity to expand your network in the startup world and get to know all the great new innovations, apps and projects that are being developed here.

Intern community

As an intern you will never be alone. Since the startups at Rockstart Spaces have their own interns too, and Rockstart works with multiple interns in different roles at the same time, there is a strong, international intern community at Rockstart that likes to hang out and exchange experiences.

Events calendar

At Rockstart we have a great events space that is always being used for different events you can join, usually with drinks and snacks provided. As an intern at Rockstart you will even get access to some of the closed events that are, for example, part of the Rockstart accelerator program. These are normally only accessible to the startups that get selected for the program from hundreds of applications every year.

Food & drinks

Interns at Rockstart get free lunch and unlimited fresh coffee brews and milk foam. Besides, we have a free team breakfast every Monday and drinks (with personal stories!) on Fridays.

(Please apply only if you are/would be still studying or are enrolled into a study program during the course of the internship and are legally allowed to work in the Netherlands.)
