Job description

A bit about Rockstart
Rockstart launched in 2011 in Amsterdam as one of Europe’s first startup accelerators. Today, Rockstart is an international company that supports and empowers the best startups on their way to success across four domains: Energy, Health, AgriFood, and Emerging technologies. We provide startups with access to the capital, market, community, and expertise by connecting them to partners, investors, mentors and the wider Rockstart network.

Rockstart also creates programs that are customized to boost collaboration between startups and corporates, driving faster access to co-creation, commercial partnerships, and investment. Rockstart has experience in designing and executing programs for Maersk, Shell, Dutch Ministry of Health, and many others.

Since its inception, Rockstart has invested in almost 200 startups and supported them in their journey to raise more than €87 million and hire more than 700 people. Rockstart is an international team of 35+ professionals dedicated to support and empower startups to become scalable and change their world for the better.

About the role

We are looking for an experienced entrepreneur or early stage investor - a person who knows what startups need to succeed - with knowledge of the developments within the health and technology sectors, especially where these two sectors meet to create validated, scalable and disruptive new health/bio businesses.

This knowledge extends to the latest trends within digital therapeutics, behavior change, predictive analytics, (consumer) medical devices, mobile diagnostics, artificial intelligence, patient engagement and disease management platforms. A deep understanding of the dynamics of (international) healthcare systems and organizations is crucial.

You will work on ensuring that the Health Accelerator program offers the best possible proposition to startups and that the greatest startups in the sector join the program. During the program you will coach and guide the startups to optimal growth, becoming investor ready, while ensuring the highest quality program.

About You

The perfect candidate for this role is someone who has recently built or been part of building a digital health company and has a good understanding of technology and the healthcare sector. You could have potentially started as a founder, and later gained experience as a leader in your own company. Ideally you have raised funding in several rounds and have ended the most recent startup journey by having your business acquired or successfully exited in other ways. You have a deep understanding of how healthcare works and have excellent communication skills in English. Experience as an early stage investor is a big plus.

  • You have a combination of a commercial and technical background.
  • You have solid experience working with health startups and understand their challenges like no one else.
  • You are a visionary, you help startups to develop products that truly disrupt their industries.
  • You are a great coach, you understand when to push for progress or support in difficult times.
  • You’re a people’s person. Sometimes the going can get tough and with your enthusiasm you have the ability to turn things around. As the go getter that you are, you leave no stone unturned to achieve the ambitious goals of the program and the startups.
  • You rigorously prioritise. With several deliverables, you always know how to master your priorities.
  • You are sharp and know what is fluff and call it straight out.

Your responsibilities:

  • Coaching the startups to ensure they progress on the right milestones;
  • Engaging with and managing the existing community of mentors, experts, corporate partners and investors;
  • Organizing and facilitating sessions and overseeing daily operations of the program;
  • Managing and maintaining relationships with different stakeholders;
  • Inspiring and managing a team of (international) professionals and interns;
  • Weekly coaching of the startups to ensure they progress on the right milestones.

  • 7+ year entrepreneurial experience either as a founder or part of the management team of a startup
  • Deep knowledge and understanding of the technology and dynamics within the health sector;
  • Experience working in a care environment, or with a regulator/govt. body w.r.t. Health legislation is a bonus
  • Knowledge of a startup’s lifecycle and investment strategies;
  • Experience in mentoring and coaching;
  • Excellent communication skills in English and Dutch;
  • Experience as an early stage investor is a big plus.
